Those words, so profound, so heavy, kept with me. If you feel the heat around the corner, that should be a wakeup call. It’s a reminder that something isn’t right. Those things have gone haywire. There’s something wrong. Now, closer to home, many people on my Twitter timeline have been feeling that heat.

It’s been very hot lately.

They have been tweeting about how uncomfortable they are to stretch for a shut eye at night. The heat is too much. It’s been hot like a hooker in Sabina Joy. One thing, though, that they haven’t asked themselves is, “What’s bringing the heat?” I’m very sure it’s not poor Al Pacino and his close pal Robert De Niro. No.

 It’s climate change.

The earlier we know this impending reality, the better. This heat, clearly, has been brought by increasing burning of fossil fuels, cutting down forests and lots more human activities. This adds enormous amounts of greenhouse gasses to those naturally occurring in the atmosphere, increasing the greenhouse effect and global warming.

2011-2020 was the warmest decade recorded. And this disastrous trend is slowly inching closer to today - 2022. We can’t sleep. We are walking around our places of abode naked (not that it’s a bad thing), but it’s increasingly worrying. There are few questions we need to ask ourselves. How long are we going to endure this heat? What are we doing about it? What are our stakeholders doing about it? Can this situation be reversed?

Plus, when was the last time you planted a tree? If we can answer those questions, then, perhaps, we will still have our clothes on, sleeping under our thick duvets and not feeling the heat around the corner like Robert De Niro.

Damn, I need to watch that movie again.
